I did a thing!

It has been several months since I last blogged and for that I apologize.

Adding more to my arsenal

I have this bad habit of getting into hobbies and never doing anything with them. This new hobby I've already invested hundreds of dollars in, well…not really it was gift cards, but you get the idea. My newest acquisition is an impact driver from Harbor Freight, I went into the store not planning on buying anything but when I saw the price of it I couldn't not get it. I've been wanting to get an impact driver for a while and the one I liked the best was $99, but I wasn't really prepared to spend that much on just one tool. So this one caught my eye it was only $20 and since I just started into woodworking and home-improvement DIY I figured that this would be a great starter tool and that I would not be using it all that often to justify a $99 purchase.

Capture

I've only used it a few times but already I am happy with it since it fits my needs perfectly and it matches the rest of my toolset. The first thing I plan on making is a shoe rack for my kids closets since they have their shoes all over the place. I have to do is plan it out since I have everything I need to make it. With all the negative stuff that's been happening the last few months I want to focus on this positive aspect of my life, I love working with my hands and I always have the ability to make something that I can't afford to buy. I can't wait to get started!

A Really Spiffy Day….

Many things happened in the last few days. Monday I was scheduled to have my second therapy session, but it was changed to Wednesday Morning after a brief phone call with my assigned therapist. Which was alright because we received a visa gift card in the mail and one of the the things we got (was really for me, actually) was a circular saw, one blade to go with it, an orbital sander and the sandpaper that goes with it. I was so excited and also feeling guilty because I felt like we were spending too much on what I wanted. My husband was trying to talk me into a sliding miter saw as well as everything else. I said no because at this point in time I doubted that it would get much use. Although I would love to get it eventually, I think the next set of tools I would want to get would be a router with router bits and a Kreg Jig. 20150720_14360920150720_143511

I tested the saw and sander to make sure they worked, and at the store I purchased a 2 year replacement warrantee for the saw. I now need to get the wood to make either a work table or at least a new computer table for my husband. I already have the screw drivers, both cordless and corded, I am hoping that once I get decent at work working  I can start selling what I make so we can have a little money on the side, also start saving up money so we can start doing fun stuff like go to Disneyland as a family.

Crafting for Fun

Tonight I attempted making my own chap stick for the first time. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I’ve watched a lot of tutorials on Youtube about how to make it and what to use. One commentator was right, using cocoa butter makes it smell like chocolate. I added my own mix of peppermint water to flavor and taste, but I think I didn’t quite add enough and should have added it to the mix before heating it up. I’ll post some pictures of the finished product. I have some melt and pour soap kits that I may take a crack at if I can find my small pyrex measuring cup. This sense of accomplishment is helping with my stress.

Being Crafty

Lately I’ve been on a craft kick. Quilting, sewing, knitting, crocheting. Now, Soap making. I’ve been hitting Hobby Lobby to get some things, but I’ve also been hitting thrift stores as well, getting crock pots, spoons, and other things because I want to start making soap using KOH and NaOH (Lye). I want to make my own liquid castile soap, instead of buying Dr Bronner’s (not that I don’t like it.  Dr.-Bronners-Soap I just want to make a lot and not worry about how much I am using for the purposes I use it for. In the next couple of months I will start with basic soap and work my way to liquid castile soap. I don’t plan on selling any of the soap, I just want it for home use, and I want to know the stuff in the soap my family uses. For example, my son gets a severe reaction to aloe, I want to make sure that there is no aloe in the soaps we have, both liquid and solid.

Since I have more time because work is cutting my hours, I will have more time on my hands to work on all my craft things.

Keep Busy

It’s been a month since my last blog post and for that I apologize. Every time I wanted to update there was an issue with the hosting company.

I’ve been feeling down the last month, so I've been trying to keep myself busy to keep the blues away. I’ve been using my sewing machine and crocheting this blanket for my baby niece. I hope that this feeling goes away soon. I really don’t like crying this much.

I’m going to be video blogging in the next few weeks, hopefully that will keep me distracted enough that I stop feeling like this.

Life Update

It’s been quite a while since I last blogged, it’s been busy for me. I am more settled in with my current job and now I have time for all the crafting that I’ve been doing. I completed the quilt that I started back in December and sent it to my brother and sister-in-law as a gift for their first child.

Here’s the front and back. Once I completed it, I was surprised at how it turned out. It was my first quilt and I am quite happy that it’s done. I am going to take long break before I start on another one.

I am teaching myself how to knit and crochet , because of this I’ve gotten a little obsessed with yarn. I completed two beanies that I included with the gift quilt (I didn’t take a photo of it) one beanie I made for myself and I also made a thick scarf for myself.

I love the way they turned out considering that I’m a complete beginner with the quilt and the knitted items. I am practicing with my crochet projects, and once completed (or semi completed) I will make a post like this again.  Wish me luck! 🙂
